Saint Francis Hospital is seeking a Gastroenterologist to join their practice in Oklahoma! 

Requirements:

  • Employed position through Warren Clinic
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible (Must become BC within 7 years of completing training)

Clinic Details:

  • Location: Springer Multi-Specialty Clinic, 6160 South Yale Avenue, Suite 100
  • Number of exam rooms: 12
    • Summer 2018 SFH will begin construction on a 12 exam room clinic space (with immediate expansion potential). The clinic will be located directly above a 5-suite outpatient endoscopy lab, bringing the total number of endo-suites to 12.
  • Number of Endo-Suites: Currently there are 7 suites in the endo lab. This will be expanding to 12 suites this summer
  • Hours: 7:00am-3:00pm
  • Equipment: no major equipment in clinic

Outpatient Endoscopy Lab (Anticipated opening Fall 2019):

  • Location: Springer Multi-Specialty Clinic, 6160 South Yale Avenue, Basement
  • Number of Endo Suites: 5 OP
  • Hours: Dependent upon anesthesia availability
  • Procedures: All outpatients procedures
  • Equipment: Anticipating all equipment used in Hospital setting will be used in OP setting

Hospital Endoscopy Lab:

  • Location: SFHS Main Campus, 1st Floor
  • Number of Endoscopy Suites: 7 (Three rooms are linked to Radiology)
  • Hours: 7:00am-3:00pm
    • No endo care after 5pm unless in ICU
    • Saturday 2 teams work for inpatient cases, no elective
  • Equipment: (3) C-arms, (4) Traveling endoscopy carts, (3) anesthesia machines (Currently split 50/50 anesthesia and conscious sedation), Mix between Boston & Cook equipment, Olympus 190 scopes, leftover 180s
  • Spyglass, Gen-I
  • Support Staff: 5 ERCP Techs, Typically 2.5 staff per provider (Nurse & Tech mix)
  • Children’s endoscopy room located in Children’s Hospital
  • Endoscopy section meets quarterly for quality improvement
  • Patients must have a BMI of less than 45 or they are moved to the main OR’s
  • Times:
    • Turnover is approximately 15 minutes
    • ERCP- 90 minutes
    • Spy- 2 hours
    • EUS- 60-70 minutes
    • Single Colons- 30 minutes
    • Double Colons – 60 minutes
  • Schedule: Block time in 30 minute increments

Hospital Privileges:

  • GI is a consult service
  • Average Inpatient Census: 10 patients. The busiest they have been is 20 patients
  • Hospitalists: 80+ Hospitalists total (Hospitalists admit patients NOT GI physicians)

Call: (See Call scheduled provided by Edward)

  • Call is shared equally between the physicians.
  • ER call is around 1:10 because private groups also cover

Expected Volume:

  • Current physicians are averaging 22 patient visits per clinic day, however
  • Usually about 10 add-ons per day.
  • Currently 36-40 ERCP monthly & 20-25 GI ultrasounds monthly.
  • To date (3/1/2018) the group has completed 900 scopes
  • Physicians are averaging between 580-600 wRVUs/month during full months

Referral Pattern:

  • Internal referral network
  • Average of 1,500 referrals per month requested for GI services; 130 colonoscopies per month.
  • 900 GI referrals are dispersed to 2 private groups

Procedures:

  • ERCP and EUS
  • Infusions are ordered through Epic and done at Yale campus
  • Some recall exams are done in clinic if you feel that a colonoscopy is not necessary (nothing invasive)
  • Colon rectal surgeon do hemorrhoid banding
  • Physicians do pegs in the clinic
  • Able to vaccinate Hepatitis A & B patients in new clinic (Pharmacy’s take care of Hep C meds)
  • Do capsule (1-2 a day) in Endo suites. Do inpatient and designated team 24/7 travels to patient.

Teaching Opportunity:

  • Yes, Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine will have a GI Fellowship program in conjunction with Warren Clinic, slated to begin in 2020.
