Seeking A Talented Staff Physicians to Join the Section of Radiology in Beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico

 

Position Information

 

The New Mexico VA Health Care System in Albuquerque, NM is actively recruiting to fill Board Certified Staff Interventional Radiology Physician (BE considered) to help care for our Veterans – American’s Heroes. Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment at UNM, Albuquerque, & be involved with education & teaching of Radiology residents in our residency program plus medical students, medicine residents & other providers. The New Mexico VA Healthcare System (NMVAHCS), located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is part of VA Desert Pacific Network (VISN22), comprised of eight health care system and 65 community clinics serving 1.5 million veterans in Arizona, New Mexico and Southern California which includes facilities in California, Nevada, and Hawaii.

 

You are invited to consider joining the team of the Albuquerque VA Medical Center and our academic affiliate the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, providing care for the world’s best patients while providing training and mentorship for fellows, residents, and students. You should be board certified/eligible in Radiology and Interventional Radiology and a US citizen with current US licensure (any state) with no history of revocations or suspension. Permanent Residents may be considered if no US citizen is selected.

 

As a care giver and clinician educator, you should have outstanding interventional radiology skills combined with a passion for teaching and scholarship. Previous post-training academic experience and a history of publication in peer-reviewed radiology journals is preferred. This position includes both inpatient and outpatient activity and the opportunity to teach learners at all levels (students, residents, and fellows). You will spend most of your time in direct patient care and the supervision of medical residents and radiology fellows in inpatient/outpatient settings. 2-5 years of experience preferred but all levels of experience are encouraged to apply. Broad experience in Interventional Radiology with a focus in Interventional Oncology and advanced liver interventions is desirable.

 

 

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician).

  • Must be U.S. Citizen – Non-US Citizens may be considered
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Board Certification in Radiology preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered.

The New Mexico VA Health Care System is a tertiary referral center consisting of 184 acute hospital beds, 90 residential rehabilitation treatment program beds and a 36 bed Nursing Home Care Unit. Albuquerque is home to the sole VA hospital in the state but the NMVAHCS operates six (6) VA-staffed Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and five (5) contract CBOCs throughout the State and southern Colorado. Annually, over 44,000 veterans are served and 33,000 hospital days and 500,000 outpatient visits are provided. In addition to its affiliation with the University of New Mexico, NMVAHCS enjoys affiliations with Central New Mexico Community College, Santa Fe Community College and New Mexico State University.

Federal Retirement Plan:

  • How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 8.3% of the employee’s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 12.7% of the employee’s salary
  • Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2015, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $18,000, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $24,000.
  • The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution
  • For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension
  • In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel
