Transplant Nephrologist

UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA has an opportunity for a Transplant Nephrologist to join our expanding
Kidney Transplant Program. Responsibilities and call will be shared with at least one other
Transplant Nephrologist and community nephrologists. Successful candidate will be Board
Certified in Internal Medicine, Board Eligible/Board Certified in Nephrology and completed a
fellowship in Transplant Nephrology approved by the American Society of Transplant. An
Academic Appointment is available with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Successful
Candidate must also express an interest in general nephology, in addition to transplant duties.

UPMC's world-class kidney transplantation program is now available at UPMC Hamot. Because
UPMC Hamot works closely with the UPMC Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program of the
Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, patients who seek kidney transplantation services at
UPMC Hamot can expect the same level of care offered by some of the leading transplant
experts in the world.

Primary Duties:

  • Execution of medical aspects of pre and post-transplantation care of kidney transplant
    candidates/recipients, both inpatient and outpatient. This would include the
    management of these patients, pre and post-transplant, and the monitoring of their

    of living kidney donors. This would include the management of these donors inpatient
    and outpatient.
  • Engage the local and regional communities through outreach activities to foster
    relationships and referrals.
  • Active participation in the Transplant Patient Safety Council which provides oversight to
    the Transplant Specific Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI)
    Program in accordance with all applicable CMS regulations.
  • Collaboration with Transplant Administration on the operations of the kidney transplant
    program including clinical workflows and all applicable UNOS Bylaws and policies.
