The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is recruiting for a full-time board certified/board eligible physician at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with strong clinical skills and an interest in academic medicine. The candidate will participate in clinical, educational and quality improvement initiatives within the Division. Candidates with the desire and appropriate skill set will be offered a research-clinician track that includes the potential for protected time and internal startup funding. Proven experience in research and quality improvement is advantageous. Mastery of skills such as professionalism, team-based care, and effective communication are mandatory. The Division is made up of 41 physicians and 4 hospital medicine fellows. Physicians in the Division hold a wide variety of leadership roles throughout the institution, including in the areas of Graduate Medical Education, Medical Administration, Medical Informatics, Care Management, and Ethics.
The clinical practice has two distinct but complementary settings:
Children’s Mercy Hospital is an urban, tertiary care/academic children’s hospital with full pediatric medical/surgical support. Our faculty provides two distinct types of clinical service:
- Attending supervision of academic teams of residents and students.
- 24/7 direct care on a hospitalist-only team comprised of medically complex and diverse general pediatric patients. Fellows, medical students and residents on elective may be part of the team.
Children’s Mercy Kansas is a unique, free-standing community children’s hospital located 12 miles southwest of Children’s Mercy Hospital. The hospital serves a breadth of pediatric diagnoses with lower acuity than our main campus. Clinical service on this campus offers a complementary clinical experience, featuring:
- 24/7 direct care of patients on a hospitalist-only team with high turnover on a small, collegial, inpatient unit.
- Professionally stimulating, direct interaction with pediatric professionals in our busy on-site pediatric emergency department, as well as in our community referral area.
