UPMC Horizon & UPMC Jameson working together

UPMC Horizon and UPMC Jameson are neighboring, community hospitals with rich traditions of serving their respective communities for over 100 years that have joined forces to provide the best, regionalized care to residents in Mercer and Lawrence counties in western PA. UPMC Horizon and UPMC Jameson are important parts of the vast, nationally renowned UPMC – whose flagship hospitals have spent more than a decade on the U.S. News and World Report’s Honor Roll of America’s Best Hospitals. UPMC Horizon & UPMC Jameson provide three hospital facilities with nearly 200 beds located in Greenville, the Shenango Valley, and New Castle as well as multiple outpatient and primary care facilities throughout the seven-county region of northwestern PA and northeastern OH. Services include inpatient and outpatient surgery, emergency care, women’s health, cancer services through UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and advanced cardiac care through UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute.

About UPMC Horizon

UPMC Horizon, a two-hospital system located in Mercer County, PA, offers two campuses: one in the quaint college-town of Greenville in northern Mercer County and the other in the southern part of the county known as the “Shenango Valley” – an attractive suburban area including the cities of Hermitage & Sharon, PA. The Shenango Valley campus is one of the few hospitals in the region that is growing – recently expanding its med/surg, ER, OR & oncology space. UPMC Horizon serves as the regional hub for women’s health services with its “Birth Place at UPMC Horizon” housed in the Shenango Valley campus. UPMC Horizon is a teaching hospital with ACGME approved residency programs in family medicine and general surgery based at its Shenango Valley campus.

About UPMC Jameson

Located in New Castle, PA, UPMC Jameson is the regional hub for acute care and heart and vascular services. Upon merging with UPMC in 2016, UPMC Jameson immediately underwent a multi-million-dollar transformation to update its facilities and provide a major expansion of its medical staff and services. The hospital is home to the expanded UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Jameson and now includes new or expanded services such as: critical care medicine, pulmonology, inpatient rehabilitation, urology, and general, bariatric, plastic, orthopaedic, and vascular surgery. In addition, UPMC Jameson has become a teaching hospital as a core training site for UPMC Horizon’s general surgery residents.

About Our Area

Mercer and Lawrence counties enjoy the best of both worlds – beautiful suburban/small town areas tucked away in very safe, affordable, family-friendly neighborhoods, but very close to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Erie & Youngstown via several nearby interstates. Our communities boast award-winning schools, affordable housing, abundant recreational & cultural activities – all bound together by a “blue collar” attitude that started with our days as a “steel town” and continues now through our successful transition to a modern haven for families. The typical rental/ownership options exist, but there’s a unique variety of very affordable neighborhoods here including: charming college-towns, larger suburban areas or rural areas with lots of land – all nestled among rolling hills and beautiful lakes. Numerous recreational/cultural offerings include local & state parks, fitness centers, symphonies, hiking/biking trails, indoor/outdoor sports facilities, golfing, skiing, museums, live music venues, community & professional theater, etc. Nicknamed the “Lakeland Area” there are several waterways for fishing, sailing & swimming ranging from large state parks to rivers (via kayak/canoe outfitters) to secluded fishing holes. Shopping options include one of the country’s largest outlet malls as well as multiple national chain stores and unique, local boutique shops. Multiple colleges and universities in the area provide not only academic options for local students, but cultural and recreational activities for the whole community. Our region offers something for everyone!
